An Ode to our Financial Statements

Balance Sheets, Budgets the P & L
You ask why upon these must we dwell?
Statements of financial position,
Reflect our congregation’s mission.
Revenues, expenses added up,
They are, in fact, not a cover-up.
No indeed, we want them to explain,
Are we heading up or down the drain.

So at 2008 let us look.
I assure you the books aren’t cooked.
As your Treasurer this past year,
I hold their accuracy quite dear.
It is with pride to you I report,
A goodly number, not one too short.
A small profit did indeed we make.
Beating Budget - icing on the cake.

And I’d like to add on top of that,
Our children’s center also came to bat.
Our center’s teachers did deliver,
Results that should not make us shiver.
Income also is there to be found.
It was just enough to go around.
Even though tuition grants were made,
Benevolence to those needing aid.

So, let us now look at numbers real,
With no more rhymes will you need to deal.
Please turn instead to your church report,
Before I’m held in contempt of court.
